Call for (a) research assistant(s)!

Are you interested in housing design, building practices, and working with communities? Would you like to learn more about research and ethnographic research methods?
We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Research Assistants for a project focused on self-built housing practices in St Martin. This is a volunteer-based position, and the data collection activities will take place on weekends or in the afternoons to accommodate your academic schedule. Additionally, students can get 1 credit for participation.

As a Research Assistant, you will participate in mapping the incremental housing in disaster-prone areas of St Martin. You will work closely with the residents who built their units themselves on the island. That will aim to document their housing practices through mapping techniques such as sketching, drawing, collages, and diagrams.

You will also assist in semi-structured interviews to gain insights into housing challenges and future opportunities for self-built housing. You will learn about ethical data collection and ethnographic research methods. Moreover, you will collaborate with residents, local researchers, and project team members to ensure the successful completion of the research activities.

Qualifications:

Weekend or afternoon availability ( 10th May - 3rd June)
Interest in housing design and building practices
Good communication skills and ability to work with people
Spanish is a plus
