Celebrating International Day of Education at USM
January 24, 2026
On International Day of Education, the University of St. Martin reflects on the transformative power of learning and its role in building resilient, inclusive communities on St. Maarten and beyond.
Each year, International Day of Education, observed on January 24, serves as a global reminder of education’s vital role in fostering opportunity, equity, and sustainable development. At USM, this day offers a moment to reflect on the impact of education not only within the classroom, but across the wider community.
Education at USM extends beyond academic instruction. It is a tool for empowerment, personal growth, and social progress. Through accessible programs, skills-based learning, research initiatives, and international collaboration, USM continues to support learners at every stage of their educational journey.
As the university catering to students on both sides of the island, USM is committed to creating pathways that respond to the needs of the island and the region. From foundational programs such as GED and skills training to degree programs and research partnerships, the university plays an active role in preparing students to contribute meaningfully to society.
On this International Day of Education, USM recognizes the dedication of its faculty and staff, the perseverance of its students, and the value of lifelong learning. Education remains a cornerstone for building resilient communities, encouraging innovation, and shaping a more inclusive future.
The board of directors, the management team, faculty, and staff reaffirms our commitment to advancing education as a force for positive change locally, regionally, and globally.
