PM Drew Meets USM President at Island Summit 2025

At the Global Sustainable Island Summit 2025, PM Terrance Drew met with USM President Dr. Antonio Carmona Báez to explore deeper collaboration between USM and CFBC. Discussions focused on training, research, and cultural exchange for sustainable island development.

During the Global Sustainable Island Summit 2025, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew engaged in a series of high-level meetings with global leaders to explore new pathways for sustainable development among island nations. Among these key meetings was a discussion with Dr. Antonio Carmona Báez, President of the University of St. Martin.

The meeting between Prime Minister Drew and President Carmona built on earlier conversations held on St. Maarten and focused on advancing collaboration between USM and the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC). Areas of mutual interest include joint training programs, research initiatives, and cultural exchange opportunities, reinforcing a shared commitment to regional academic development and innovation.

Dr. Drew emphasized that sustainability goes beyond environmental or economic concerns it encompasses people, education, and the relationships that unite island communities. This sentiment echoed his discussions throughout the summit with representatives from across the globe, including James Ellsmoor, CEO of Island Innovation, and Ambassador Michael Lin of Taiwan.

The Prime Minister noted that the Federation’s Geothermal Energy Project a major step in its transition to a sustainable island state was also a focal point of conversation among international stakeholders. The presence of long-time partners and fellow small island leaders underscored the significance of this summit in shaping a collaborative, resilient future for island nations.

As the summit concluded, Dr. Drew affirmed that strong political will, supported by real collaboration, can unlock powerful change. His meeting with USM signals a promising step forward in regional education partnerships and the sustainable development of human capital in the Caribbean.
