USM and NIA Launch New Courses &, Program in Performing Arts

Beginning August 12, 2024, for the Fall semester, USM and NIA will offer two foundational courses: Introduction to the Performing Arts 101 and Introduction to Dance 101.
Pond Island, - The University of St. Martin (USM) and the National Institute of Arts (NIA) are pleased to announce a collaboration to provide new college-level courses and a new concentration in the Performing Arts. This collaboration is a significant step toward increasing educational opportunities in the arts for students in St. Maarten and the surrounding areas.

Beginning August 12, 2024, for the Fall semester, USM and NIA will offer two foundational courses: Introduction to the Performing Arts 101 and Introduction to Dance 101. These courses are intended to provide students with a thorough introductory understanding of the performing arts, including both practical and theoretical knowledge necessary for aspiring artists.

In addition to these first two courses, USM will offer a full degree program which will be an Associate of Arts (A.A.) with a concentration in Performing Arts. Nine additional courses will be developed by NIA and offered by USM for this concentration. This program aims to develop students' talents and prepare them for successful careers in a variety of performing arts fields such as theater, dance, music, and production.

"This partnership reflects our commitment to fostering creativity and artistic expression, which are vital components of a well-rounded education."

The National Institute of Arts, renowned for its excellence in interdisciplinary arts education, will contribute its knowledge and resources to the collaboration, ensuring that students receive high-quality instruction and hands-on experience in the performing arts.
