USM CFY Academic Track to Begin October 1

USM announces key updates to the CFY Academic Track for 2026–2027. Classes begin October 1 at the USM campus, with applications extended to August 28 and placement testing scheduled for September 2 and 3.
The University of St. Martin is pleased to share several important updates to the Caribbean Foundation Year (CFY) Academic Track for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Following the completion and evaluation of the 2025–2026 pilot year, updates have been made to strengthen the delivery of the Academic Track and provide students with a more consistent and connected academic experience.
The CFY Academic Track will officially begin on October 1, 2026, and run through June 2027. All Academic Track classes will be delivered in person at USM campus on St. Maarten. This includes eligible students applying from St. Eustatius, who will be required to attend classes on the USM campus.
What is the CFY Academic Track?
The CFY Academic Track serves as a bridge between secondary and higher education. It gives young people additional time and support to strengthen their academic skills, prepare for university-level studies, explore educational and career pathways, and develop the confidence and skills needed to successfully transition into higher education.
The Academic Track is open to eligible students between the ages of 16 and 23 who meet the program’s admission requirements.
Application Deadline Extended
To give prospective students additional time to apply under the updated program structure, the application deadline has been extended to Friday, August 28, 2026.
Placement assessments will take place at USM on September 2 and 3, 2026. Applicants that may already completed the CFY placement test at USM, won't need to take it again.
Students who have already submitted their CFY application also do not need to submit a new application. Our Admissions Office will follow up with applicants regarding their application status and any outstanding admission requirements.
