USM Joins National Climate Adaptation Strategy Workshop

USM participated in a two-day stakeholder workshop organized by VROMI to support the development of Sint Maarten’s National Climate Adaptation Strategy. The sessions brought together local and international experts to shape policies that strengthen climate resilience.
USM recently participated in a two-day stakeholder workshop organized by the Ministry of VROMI, focused on the development of "Sint Maarten’s National Climate Adaptation Strategy" and its accompanying policies.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders, along with local and international experts, to exchange knowledge, share perspectives, and provide input toward strengthening the island’s climate resilience. Through interactive sessions and collaborative discussions, participants contributed valuable insights to help shape a comprehensive and inclusive national strategy.
The initiative emphasized the importance of multi-sector collaboration, ensuring that the voices of government, academia, civil society, and regional partners are reflected in the country’s climate response framework.
Through its collaboration with Climate Adaptation Services of the Netherlands, USM will continue to support this effort through research, data collection, and community engagement. The university will also play an important role in strengthening relationships with government and non-governmental stakeholders, including partners in the French territory of Saint-Martin.
USM remains committed to advancing sustainable development and supporting the island's efforts to build a resilient and climate-ready future.
