The University of St. Martin invites the community to support CLIMB SXM's D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) initiative on Wednesday, July 8, from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Bring your favorite book and join us on the USM campus for 30 minutes dedicated to reading and literacy.
The University of St. Martin is proud to support CLIMB SXM's D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) initiative by opening its campus to the community for a special 30-minute reading event.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM, students, faculty, staff, businesses, organizations, families, and community members are invited to gather on the USM campus and participate in a shared reading experience.

The initiative encourages everyone to pause their daily routines, disconnect from distractions, and dedicate 30 minutes to reading. Participants are encouraged to bring a book of their choice, with a special emphasis on books written by St. Martin and Caribbean authors, as a way of celebrating the region's rich literary heritage and supporting local voices.

As an institution committed to higher education and lifelong learning, USM recognizes that literacy is the foundation of academic achievement, personal growth, and community development. By supporting D.E.A.R., the university hopes to inspire individuals of all ages to make reading a regular part of their daily lives.

"Reading opens doors to knowledge, imagination, and opportunity. We are pleased to support this important initiative and invite the community to join us as we come together to celebrate the simple yet powerful act of reading," said Mrs. Juliana Shipley Hodge, Division Head of Education and General Liberal Arts programs at USM.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Participants are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket, a favorite book, and enjoy an evening dedicated to reading in a relaxed outdoor setting.
