USM Supports Launch of St. Martin Climate Impact Atlas

January 14, 2026

Developed through collaboration with USM and regional partners, the Climate Impact Atlas supports climate awareness and preparedness.
The team at USM is pleased to highlight the official launch of the St. Martin Climate Impact Atlas, a powerful new digital platform designed to help the island better understand how climate change is already affecting St. Martin and what the future may bring.

Developed through a collaborative effort between Climate Adaptation Services (CAS), the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI), USM, and a network of more than 25 local and international partners, the Climate Impact Atlas serves as a free, publicly accessible tool to support informed decision-making, education, and climate preparedness across the island.

The Atlas brings together scientific data, local knowledge, and interactive visualizations to explore climate-related risks such as flooding, heat stress, drought, and sea level rise. Importantly, it presents climate impacts at the scale of the entire island of St. Martin, recognizing that environmental challenges transcend administrative borders.

As a contributing partner, USM continues to support research, education, and community engagement initiatives that promote sustainability, resilience, and evidence-based policy development. The Atlas also serves as a valuable educational resource for students, educators, policymakers, and the wider community seeking to better understand climate risks and preparedness.

Visitors are encouraged to explore the platform and learn more about how climate data can support planning, policy, and community resilience.
