March 6, 2026
The University of St. Martin recently participated in MAC High School’s CSEC Seniors Motivational Day, engaging students through round-table discussions and introducing the USM Caribbean Academic Foundation Year (CAFY) program, designed to prepare students for success in college.
The University of St. Martin recently participated in the MAC High School CSEC Seniors Motivational Day, held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Pineapple Pete in Simpson Bay. The event was organized under the theme “Resilient Under Pressure,” focusing on preparing students academically and mentally as they approach their upcoming CSEC examinations.
The program began with a deep breathing and mindfulness session facilitated by Member of Parliament Ludmila de Weever, which provided students with practical techniques for managing stress and maintaining focus during high-pressure periods such as exam preparation.
Following breakfast, students participated in round-table motivational discussions, where they were placed in small groups and rotated between speakers every fifteen minutes. This interactive format allowed students to engage directly with professionals, ask questions, and hear real life experiences related to perseverance, education, and career development.
During the discussions, students were also introduced to the Caribbean Academic Foundation Year (CAFY) at the University of St. Martin. The 10-month program is designed to strengthen academic skills and prepare students for success in college-level studies, providing a strong foundation for students as they move forward into higher education. Applications for CAFY are currently open.
The event also provided a valuable opportunity for Sevahnna Gabriela, a ninth-grade student from Learning Unlimited, who is completing her career shadowing placement with USM Marketing Consultant Shobhan Giterson. Through this experience, Sevahnna was able to observe the sessions and gain insight into university outreach and student engagement.
USM expressed appreciation to MAC High School for the invitation and the opportunity to connect with students as they prepare for an important milestone in their academic journey.
