USM will host a major Creative Economy Symposium on June 7, uniting regional experts, creatives, and policymakers to explore how film, storytelling, and innovation can drive inclusive, sustainable growth across the Caribbean.
Pond Island – The University of St. Martin proudly announces the hosting of a landmark Creative Economy Symposium, set for Saturday, June 7, on its campus. This milestone event, focused on the Orange Economy, aims to unlock the creative sector’s full potential as a driving force for economic growth, cultural resilience, and sustainable development in the Caribbean.

Bringing together local, regional, and international thought leaders, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers, the symposium will spotlight the role of the screen and creative industries in small island developing states (SIDS). Key topics include storytelling for climate justice, film as a tool for transformation, and building a screen industries ecosystem in St. Maarten.

The event is a cornerstone of USM’s mission to position itself as a catalyst for innovation in 21st-century education. “This symposium signals our intention to mainstream the creative sector as a serious pillar of national development,” stated Dr. Gale T.C. Rigobert, Dean of Academics at USM.

With a focus on curriculum innovation, public-private partnerships, and regional capacity-building, USM is committed to advancing inclusive, creative solutions to address climate change, youth unemployment, and economic vulnerability.

The Creative Economy Symposium promises to be a vital step in shaping a future where empowerment, education, and identity drive growth not just for St. Maarten, but for the entire Caribbean region.
