The University of St. Martin (USM) recently welcomed Mr. Rutger Brood, Head of Marketing at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, for an introductory meeting focused on higher education, student mobility and opportunities for future collaboration.
The meeting, held at the USM campus on Friday, September 11, 2026, included USM’s Manager of Finance and Operations, Mr. Robert Judd; Dean of the Hospitality and Business Division, Mr. Jan van Beek; and Head of Marketing, Ms. Mitsha Shobhan Giterson.
During the discussion, USM provided an overview of its academic programs, student population and role as a local university with a regional outlook. The university also highlighted its existing relationships with regional institutions, including its partnership with the University of the Virgin Islands.
The representatives exchanged ideas and experiences related to marketing in higher education and discussed the importance of creating opportunities that help students connect with institutions and educational experiences beyond their home countries.
Student mobility was also an important area of discussion. Both institutions explored ways in which greater international exposure, academic exchange and institutional cooperation could contribute to the personal and professional development of students.
Mr. Brood’s visit provided an opportunity for USM and the University of Groningen to learn more about each institution’s work and consider areas in which their interests may align. The conversation was exploratory, and no formal partnership has been established at this stage.
USM welcomes opportunities to engage with universities and educational professionals from around the world as it continues to strengthen its academic network and create meaningful opportunities for its students, faculty and the wider community.
The university looks forward to remaining in contact with the University of Groningen and continuing discussions on possible areas of future cooperation.
