Ph.D. Scholarships at USM – Apply by June 24, 2025

Advance Caribbean research with the University of St. Martin.

Are you passionate about research that supports the development of the Caribbean part of the Dutch Kingdom? The University of St. Martin in collaboration with the Dutch Research Council (NWO), invites eligible candidates to submit a Statement of Intent for a Ph.D. scholarship opportunity.

If you were born on, currently reside on, or have academic interests related to the ABCSSS islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Saba, St. Eustatius, or St. Maarten), you are encouraged to apply.

With the support of NWO, USM will host at least one Ph.D. researcher for a 4-year period. We welcome proposals in fields including:

- Governance and policy
- Health
- Climate change and environmental studies
- Socio-economic and cultural development of St. Martin and surrounding islands



Ph.D. candidates may identify their promotors at USM or partner institutions within any university or university of applied sciences across the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
