GIS 101 - Introduction to Geographic Information System

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a spatial system that creates, manages, analyzes, visualizes, and maps all types of data. GIS connects information to a map, integrating location
data (where things are) with all types of descriptive information (what things are like there).

This provides a foundation for mapping and analysis that is used throughout the Government of Sint Maarten, in Ministries such as VROMI, as well as other sectors such as Disaster Management, Public Health, Environmental Management and several more.

This course provides an introduction to the fundamental theories and concepts of GIS. Several organizations in virtually every field are using GIS to make maps that communicate, perform analysis, share information, and solve complex problems around the world. This is changing the way the world works.

Students who learn about GIS will have a solid foundation in spatial data management, data acquisition, analytics and visualization with a variety of tools and software.
